DeliverySlip is an alternative to client portal for sending documents and encrypted emails securely. It is used by some large accounting firms. You do need a custom URL email address to add this plugin
1 - DOCUMENT RETENTION
Download the invoice or payment report. Also run the fax reports once a month. Since I started with them they are on their third owner and fourth fax interface and fax invoicing system. They have never ported the reports or invoicing database over from one system to another.
2 - FAX NUMBER CONTINUITY
This fax # belongs to MyFAX.
3 - BILLING SUPPORT
If you ever need billing support, you may need to be creative to find the right number. Once you reach someone, they are great.
I have used them for years and on an old pricing plan which they never increased! I’m pretty happy with the service. No reason to switch and I would recommend them.

The US Preparer software Intuit Proconnect has a build in Client portal for clients to logon upload and view files. You can even customize a checklist and have them upload files as they answer the questions and it can look at their previous years return to dynamically customize and ask questions specific to them like “Do you have a T-4 SLip again this year from blah blahblah” upload it now.
It also had the ability to file them away in a half finished document management type system.
And then it pops them up in a pane at the right in relevant sections of the return and you can even choose to OCR them into the form you are working on.
It is all great in theory but there are lot of problems with it and Intuit is very slow to understand and fix bugs.
I would love to see Tax Cycle strive to eventually integrate a secure customer file sharing portal, customizable checklists integrated to the client data, and a secure signature platform once the CRA agrees that is a useful tool for filing signoff all into ONE SOFTWARE. Then they will really take a big bite out of Profile’s market share. Seems like they are already well on their way.
WhistlerLauren i have use taxcycle since 2013-2014 tax year . My recommendation is to try the suite out with doxcycle . As i do a few returns in t1 all my slip are scanned with doxcycle and are stored that way, also i have tried profile and can say that in my opinion taxcycle has them beat .
We use RingCentral for the eFax function only. $13 per month for 750 pages is plenty sufficient and works great for us. No concern about document retention, fax delivered to my inbox, I can port the number if I leave, and support is decent.
Using a second phone line for sending/receiving faxes, I’ve frequently ran into issues with connectivity etc… I finally cancelled it and looking into MyFax.
From a client’s perspective can they send me a fax using their own fax machine? or do they have to scan/save/send documents?
I use a fax program that cost maybe 20 dollar but my phone company put a filter on my second line that i use for fax so there is no static. I have had no problem the name of the program is essential fax .
When I first started in personal tax 20 years ago I used a fax board. Then an app. Then the app changed an failed to give me useful confirmation slips and logs so I switched to a third party service called MyFax. It was great for a while. Then it was bought out by J2. Now J2 has changed the pricing cancelled my grandfathered rates. Also the confirmations are not as useful as before which defeats the purpose of going with a paid service that I rarely use.
So… Thank you for this tip. It will save me $126 per year.
I’ve been with MyFax since 2007.
Since then I’ve paid $126 * 14 = $1764
plus about $100 in overage charges since my plan was changed by the vendor with no grandfathering.
